Term 3 · Paper set 1 · Paper I · A/L Chemistry

A Paadama Grade 12 Term 3 test (paper set 1), in the format of the G.C.E. (A/L) Chemistry Paper I: 50 multiple-choice questions, two hours, no calculators. About 60% of the marks test this term's work (organic chemistry: functional groups, nomenclature, isomerism, electronic effects, reaction types, hydrocarbons and halides, with a few questions on alcohols, carboxylic acids, phenol and amines) and about 40% revise Terms 1 and 2 (atomic structure, bonding, the mole, gases, energetics and the periodic table). Questions 1–30 have one correct answer. In questions 31–40 one or more of the responses (a), (b), (c) and (d) is correct: choose (1) if only (a) and (b) are correct, (2) if only (b) and (c), (3) if only (c) and (d), (4) if only (d) and (a), and (5) for any other number or combination of correct responses. Questions 41–50 give two statements; choose the response that best fits them. Universal gas constant R = 8.314 J K⁻¹ mol⁻¹, Avogadro constant = 6.022 × 10²³ mol⁻¹, Planck constant h = 6.626 × 10⁻³⁴ J s, speed of light c = 3 × 10⁸ m s⁻¹. Relative atomic masses are given in the questions where needed. Each question links to the lesson it tests.
